Lady In The Water

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

Two days back at work now after the holidays. Spent the weekend getting the house in order: Bought a hoover, lampshades, hung up a Padraig O’Murchu sculpture, rearranged sitting room and so forth.

Watched Lady In The Water & Nacho Libre. Lady was a bit weak, and Nacho was exactly what it said on the tin.

The Pitch & Putt course on Lansdowne Valley is a fantastic beautiful course. Made me almost forget I was in Dublin, never mind Drimnagh. Averaged 4.25 shots over the 18 hole course – A couple of well tricky holes – Golf balls were lost.

I’m on a new project at work – And just like the few proceeding it – My motto of componentisation and modularisation seems to be just what the architect ordered.

Cars and Angel-A Weekend

Monday, July 31st, 2006

I’m on day 3 of my 2 week holidays from NewBay. Saw Cars and Angel-A at the cinema. Mneh to both, although Angel-A had it’s moments. I’m doing a bit of running, my legs haven’t this poor in quite some time – muscles straining – it’s a good sign right?

I’ve wanted to do more on the Java front, but alas haven’t spent much time on the computer yet at all.

The Civ3 Emperor Loss Weekend

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

Played my first Civilization 3 game through on the monitor. I had only once previously played on Emperor – and won with great difficulty (Space Race, with another Civ very close behind). This time I played the same basic strategy, but lost to Space Race, with a nasty nuclear war a few turns beforehard. It was a joy to play on the monitor at 2560×1600 – Zoomed out I could almost see the entire standard map. I just read an article regarding the greap leap from monarch to emperor

Watched Season One of DeadWood over the weekend too. I’m impressed, the language is very sharp and consistently so. Calamity Jane for all the cheap humour associated with, is still my favourite character.

Calamity Jane: I’m drunk. Correct. What the fuck is it to you?

The Hope Davis Weekend

Monday, March 6th, 2006

Myself and Anna are together six whole years! Our anniversary was over the weekend and we celebrated in our usual tradition of cinema with popcorn. We got through 3 films in all; The Matador, Proof and The Weather Man. I enjoyed The Weather Man the most – it evoked a true ineasiness in myself, but was worth it. The other two were just alright. All three films starred Hope Davis, a name and face I’m destined to unfortunately remember (valuable neuron real esate etc…). We ate at a noodle house on Saturday and took a Bombay Pantry take away home on Sunday.

Battlestar Galactica – Pegasus

Monday, September 26th, 2005

It’s been almost a full 24hours since I saw this weeks episode of Battlestar. The end of Season 2a an episode called Pegasus. I am still thinking about it and pestering my colleagues to see it. I’ve just ordered the mini series and season one online. Anything I can do to ensure this show stays on the air I’ll do. It was a very dark episode that pushed on at a breathless unpausing speed. Makes for very exciting television. We get deeper insights into many of the cast and it only serves to open up more questions and allow for further intrigue. It’s been a good 2/3 years since an episode of any series has had such an impact. I’d have to go back to the ending of Season 4 of West Wing. Fracking Amazing!!!

Girl With a Pearl Earring

Thursday, August 25th, 2005

Saw this film last night. Some very nice scenes in the film alright. Would have liked to have seen this on a bigger screen. But very slow and unemotive on the whole. Based on dutch painter Johannes Vermeer.

Bewitched

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005

Went to see Bewitched last night at CineWorld. I like Will Ferrell and don’t miss his stuff at the cinema. The film wasn’t great and Will Ferrell only really was allowed to be himself in one particular scene. You’ll know it when you see it :) I was thinking about Ferrell and his performances after the film and have come to the conclusion he’s a lot better when he’s in a role surrounded by other comedians; Old School and Achorman he is at his best. Nicole Kidman never does anything for me.
