About Me
Hi! Welcome to my blog.
Currently I’m working for NewBay Software Ltd.
Just before this I worked for 3Q solutions; primarily as a Java software developer. I worked with a smart bunch of guys: Steve Quinlan, Ray Gallagher and Sean O’Donnell.
I graduated from Electronic Engineering at NUI, Galway in 2003 and believe I was the youngest person ever to graduate from that degree. I won a number of awards in 2003 for my degree project and they include:
- Nortel Award – Best Electronic Engineering Project at NUI, Galway.
- Ryan Hanly Award – Best Engineering Project in Galway.
- 2nd Siemens Young Engineer of the Year by The National Institute of Engineers of Ireland (IEI)
I’ve been published twice, on topics relating to my degree project. Both times with my degree supervisor Dr. John Breslin. I presented the first paper below at the ICIT ‘03 conference in Maribor, Slovenia.
- “The Application of Modern PDA Technology for Effective Handheld Solutions in the Retail Industry”. ICIT, December 2003. The pdf can be found here.
- “Handheld solutions for the retail sector”. This appeared in The Institute of Engineers of Ireland Journal, November 2003.
I’ve also won a few awards for my Programming, Web Development and Chess skills. I absolutely love playing Tennis, and played at a high national level up until a year or two ago, winning many titles along the way.
I maintain a number of websites, most of which can probably be found off my web development site Excentric.com. You can reach me at excentric@gmail.com.
